Aviation and aerospace aficionados shouldn't miss a visit to The Museum of Flight. Home to one of the largest air and space collections in the country, the museum is set to launch exhibits such as Apollo F-1 Engine Preview which will display recovered artifacts from Nasa’s Apollo 12 and 16 missions to the moon including the injector plate from Apollo 12’s #3 engine.
Opened in 1977, the Seattle Aquarium includes a harbor seal exhibit, an underwater dome, and a daily octopus feeding. Other exhibits range from the Window on Washington Waters with 800 fish and invertebrates (divers give demonstrations and talks three times daily), to Pacific Coral Reef with a 25,000-gallon tank with Tangs, Saddle Wrasses, and Triggerfish.
For a breath of fresh air and a close-up look at local plants, head to the Washington Park Arboretum. Comprised of 230 acres, the bucolic park includes ponds, walking trails, and a Japanese garden with wooden bridges and idyllic streams. Consider it the ultimate city escape. For a few hours, that is.
